We're excited to finally reveal the cover for DK's upcoming cyberpunk novel, Squid's Grief!
In the seething metropolis of Baltus City, car-hacker Squid is desperate for a fresh start. She dreams of a normal life and a respectable job, where retirement comes with a pension plan, not an exit wound. Determined to break free from the criminal syndicate that commands her, she agrees to one last heist. But when she rescues a cheerful amnesiac from the trunk of a stolen car, her decision to help him sends her own plans into a tailspin.
Squid and the amnesiac—soon nicknamed Grief—rapidly find themselves caught between warring criminal factions, shadowy vigilantes, and Squid’s own hopes for a better future.
As she investigates deeper into the mystery of Grief’s true identity, Squid begins to uncover a past darker than her own, setting her on a collision course with the enigmatic crime lords who rule Baltus City.

It was another fantastic year at GenreCon, Brisbane, and here is DK's report.
"I always look forward to GenreCon. It's an opportunity to celebrate not only the diversity of speculative fiction, but also the wonderful community of readers and writers who love genre fiction in all its forms.
I had a brilliant time listening to entertaining and inspiring panels featuring speakers including C.S. Pacat, Mary Robinette Kowal, Sulari Gentill, Kim Wilkins, Kylie Scott, Isobelle Carmody and many others.
Some of the highlights included discussions on the role of genre fiction in increasing empathy; the importance of utopian fiction and hope; our need to see ourselves represented in stories; and the value of volunteering and building communities.
Plenty of thoughtful advice was dispensed, and here are just a few snippets (highly paraphrased):
Genre fiction is where we create the myths of our time, the cultural touchstones. - C.S. Pacat
We can write the world. - C.S. Pacat
Social media allows counter-narratives to develop. - C.S. Pacat
What matters isn't necessarily the size of your audience, but how engaged they are. - J.M. Donellan
The beginning is easy. Don't stop when it gets hard. - Mary Robinette Kowal
Trust your own reactions. Write the things you love. - Mary Robinette Kowal
Novels are where the author's imagination meets the reader's imagination. - Sulari Gentill
Give yourself permission to do mad things. - Sulari Gentill
Finally, thanks go to the convener, Peter Ball, the Australian Writer's Marketplace, the State Library of QLD, and all the speakers, staff, sponsors and volunteers who made it another great event."
